The above image is used with permission of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy. It was painted by an unknown artist sometime during the 13th century. It depicts Mary's role in the redemption or ransoming of captives by Saint Peter Nolasco and the early Mercedarian friars. It is believed that Mary came to Peter Nolasco in a vision and directed him to found the order and collect alms to pay for the freedom of captives. When no money could be immediately collected, the friars traded themselves for the lives of the captives until the ransom was paid. If the funds could not be raised, the friars were martyred.
Arizona Rosary Celebration is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Arizona State Council. It is assisted by the Dioceses of Tucson and Phoenix, Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of America, and many other Lay Catholic organizations.

Arizona Rosary Celebration
For over 35 years the Diocese of Phoenix held an annual gathering of the faithful that became one of the largest annual public Rosary celebrations in the United States. The tradition changed six years ago as we were blessed with the opportunity to hold a Rosary celebration in Tucson as well as in Phoenix. With this expansion, Rosary Sunday was renamed the "Arizona Rosary Celebration" and is now held each year in both Tucson and in Phoenix. This year marks the 41st year of Arizona's Rosary Celebration tradition. Together, these two wonderful events honor our Lady.
This major celebration in honor of Our Lady is sponsored by the Arizona Knights of Columbus and held in conjunction with the Dioceses of Tucson and Phoenix. Invitations to participate are extended to all parishes and groups in each diocese.
Your participation and support is desired and very much needed in helping honor our Blessed Mother. We seek her special protection and powerful intercession! Mark your calendars and inform and remind your family and friends. Pass the word passionately and often.
